Name: Kurama (Shuichi Minamino)
Fandom: Yu Yu Hakusho
Timeline: post- series
Age: 22 with human body, over 300 with demon years
Appearance: Kurama has two forms between which he can transfer. First is his full youkai form, which is usually dressed in white robes and shows off a pair of golden hues to place some color against the silver hair, fox ears, and tail. This form all together possesses a strong demon likeness and his demonic aura is increased as well as his fighting ability and senses. He also has a human body/ appearance, which he uses most of the time. Green eyes and long red hair are usually the trade mark which seems to draw girls as much as it gets him confused with them. This form is slightly shorter than his youkai form and it creates something of a physical barrier between him and full power, although not by much.
Abilities: Kurama is mainly a fox spirit, which is classified as a type of demon. Over his many years he has mastered many special abilities. His talent however, remains with his ability to summon, use, and fully control plants. However he does favor certain plants or abilities- all listed below;
Common Abilities
-Rose Whip: Basically a thorn covered vine that has the ability to cut through almost any substance. It is Kurama’s favorite weapon of choice. Summoning a seed and using his demonic energy, he manipulates the seed into a rose and then just as quickly into the rose whip. He has mastered many different styles of using the whip and he can combine this ability with some of his other abilities in order to form a more lethal or powerful attack.
-Martial Arts: It is unknown what form of martial arts Kurama knows, however it is obvious he is skilled in them. He has probably been practicing them since his beginnings as a demon.
-Rose Whip Thorn Wheel: A combination of his whip and a cloud of razor sharp rose petals. He manipulates both simply by using his demonic energy and proves he doesn’t always need to move his position to control his plants.
-Seeds of the death plant: A plant Kurama only uses a couple times when the situation is getting dire. He will plant the seeds of the death plant inside another person. If the seed is not removed in time, it will plant its roots and fester until it slowly kills its victim from the inside out. This attack can also be used outside of the body. Using his own demon energy, Kurama can grow the seed into a death plant which responds to movement and heat, rooting around his arm. It is hard to control without ample demon energy.
-Ojigi Plant: Similar to the death plant, it responds to heat and movement. The plant itself, unlike the death plant is huge and takes more energy to control. It is also vastly more lethal and dangerous.
-Demon Binding Blade: Similar to the rose whip, instead of it being a long loose vine, the vine itself wraps around Kurama’s arm and extends to be used more like a sword or short blade rather than a whip.
Helpful Tools
-Lamp weed: Simple plants that produce light and are easy to summon in vast quantities.
-Parrot Grass: Also another simple seed/ plant to summon and manipulate, the plant can be used as communication as well as a way to alert or confuse an enemy. However the plant is rather annoying.
-Floating Leaves: Basically a plant summoning that takes the form of giant butterfly like leaf wings upon Kurama’s back. Good for floating, and hovering.
Last Resorts:
-Sinning Tree: A very lethal and over all cruel and unforgiving plant. The seed itself is not hard to summon, however, it goes against Kurama’s morals to use this plant on any opponent. (He only used it on elder Toguro during the Sensui arch out of intense anger and hatred from being forced to kill game master) The plant itself, once rooted, will draw on the emotions and memories of its host. It then creates hallucinations in order to continue sucking the life out of its host until they are dead.
-Bamboo Plant: A rather difficult attack to summon, Kurama can force thousands of razor sharp bamboo blades to rise out of the ground in a miniature forest, slicing up his opponent in seconds and not allowing them much room to dodge away.
-Vampire Plant: A plant that feeds off blood and life energy, it thus takes a lot of Kurama’s own strength to summon the plant and it is always uncertain if it will hit its intended target. It is only used in dire situations.
However, these attacks do not limit or fully define the extent of Kurama’s ability to use plants and his own demonic ability. In fact, another ability Kurama has (which he gains only after drinking the potion during the dark tournament) is his ability to transform to and from his Yoko state. Over time he regained most of his demon powers in full and was able to transform without help from the potion. Having gained his demonic powers back in full, he has gained even more access to the amount of plants he can control and demonic abilities he can use.
Personality: Kurama is a very pleasant and well rounded person in general. Smart, polite, and punctual- he seems like the perfect student, son, and all around guy. This didactic and patient personality he has is the result of hundreds of years of living and experience. His personality is probably more suited to a wise old man than to a healthy teenage boy. Around his friends, he grows slightly more open, where he becomes willing to tease his other team members as well as play along with their sometimes childish pranks despite him being probably the most mature member. It is hard to get Kurama legitimately angry or stressed and likewise is hard to get him to show what he is actually thinking. Hiei notes at one point however, that he is even more merciless and cutthroat than even himself. Hiei also points out that this same fact was what made him decide it was better to be allies with him than enemies. As Yoko Kurama this cruel and demonic personality is greatly amplified, allowing him to sometimes turn off his human gained morals and emotions to the point where he is even willing to ‘play’ with his enemies in battle.
Although his yoko form is his original form and person, it later becomes a great source of internal struggle for Kurama as he focuses on trying to regain his full powers without having to resort to his old personality. Kurama would give his life to protect those he cares about and in reverting to his old personality finds the fear that he might lose his new self in the process- in turn hurting those he cares about. In contrast to this conflict, his human emotions also bring out weaknesses. His human emotions are what make him easy to read at times; which is made obvious during the Sensui arch when Kurama was forced to kill Game Master and Elder Toguro was able to read his thoughts so easily. It is this same instant that Kurama proves that even in human form he can still be cruel and calculating, forsaking his human emotions. Kurama likes to read his opponent’s moves in battle before giving in to certain attack. This often winds up with him injured or placed into a predicament, yet in the end, Kurama’s ploys help him to escape with his life every time.
History:
Kurama was born as a spirit fox in the depths of Makai over 300 years ago. He eventually grew to be classified as a lower level demon. Growing bored with the average demon life in Makai he spent his time learning to break codes and steal treasures. An addictive pass time, he found himself soon leading a troupe of thieves, pillaging the Makai’s most guarded treasures. It wasn’t long before his name was known all over demon world. However things would not always go so well. Yomi, a demon within Kurama’s troupe, went ahead to steal the treasure without obeying Kurama’s orders that it was a trap. Thus Yomi was attacked. Later Yomi became stronger, soon becoming a lord of the demon world and found the person who attacked and blinded him. The demon confessed Kurama had sent him after Yomi as a test. With the loss of Yomi, Kurama removed himself from this band of thieves and started stealing on his own. He mastered his own powers and became an expert at what he did as well as became a very powerful demon.
Later on his own, Kurama met Kuronue. The two became good friends and began to travel together, stealing artifacts. However, Kuronue and Kurama soon fell into a dangerous trap which killed his best friend. It was only shortly after that Kurama found himself being hunted by hunters of the spirit world. Finding himself mortally wounded, he used the last vestiges of his demon energy to place himself inside the fetus of an unborn child so that he would be reborn. He planned only to stay 10 years in human world, long enough to regain his demon energy and return to the demon world. Kurama acted indifferent and rude towards his human mother, constantly thinking her inferior. It was a feeling he would later live to regret. At the human age of 6 Kurama was working on mastering some basic plant techniques when his young body fell from a tree. His human mother, Shiori Minamino, jumped in the way to save him and hurting herself in the process. Kurama was forever changed by the act of kindness. Later his human mother grew ill with an incurable disease. Guilty about leaving, he stayed in the human world and continued to live as her son in order to help her. During this time he was attending middle school. A girl by the name of Maya, who was very spiritually aware, fell in love with him. Kurama acted indifferent towards her however, was never rude towards her. Thus a demon took the chance to kidnap her and use it to get to Kurama. Having given into his human emotions Kurama ran to save her. Hiei, a demon who happened to be watching the incident and trailing the same demon, came to help. With Hieis help, Kurama defeated the demon and the two went their separate ways as allies. He used the pollen from the memory flower in order to erase all of Maya’s memories about him. Kurama later grew out his hair and transferred schools.
Hiei returned later offering Kurama a deal. Kurama helped Hiei and Gouki kidnap the three spirit artifacts of darkness, each able to keep one artifact. Kurama took the Forlorn Hope and removed himself quickly from the alliance. Instead he had good intentions for his stolen artifact. After defeating Gouki, Kurama requested a meeting with Yusuke Urameshi (the new spirit detective) and decided to outright tell him everything about himself and the reason for using the artifact. In a literally thoughtless act, Yusuke offered the mirror his own life in exchange for Kurama to get his wish and still keep his life. The act allowed both to keep their lives and Kurama’s mother to be saved. Kurama was forever indebted to the spirit detective. Soon Kurama would travel with Yusuke to help his destroy the four saint beasts. He revealed more of his demon powers, using attacks like rose whip to kill Genbu. However, his access to his demon energy was still hindered and he wound up badly injured. His own unwillingness to attack in full until he had the others moves completely read also helped get him injured. Later, Kurama would return to the human world and resume helping his mother as well as working for Koenma. Worried for Hiei as he went to save Yukina, he got angry at Koenma and quickly vanished to help out. However, Hiei did not end up killing Tarukane and Kurama was not needed after all. He returned home once again. However it was not long until Kurama was called to work with the spirit detective once again. Joining the dark tournament as part of Team Urameshi, Kurama became one of the main members of the Rekkai Tentai.
During the Dark tournament, Kurama was forced against many opponents, all which tested his resolve. (not going to go into them, there were a lot of battles) During his battle with Urashima, he was reverted back to his Yoko Kurama state by breathing in the reverse box’s smoke. Yoko, delighted to finally be rid of his human restrictions, quickly won the match. However, he returned to his human for soon after. Later the Risho gives Kurama the potion that made him revert to Yoko Kurama. This starts a long and conflicting process for Kurama to regain his full demon powers without losing his human emotions or morals. He uses the potion once again in the final battle of the dark tournament against Karasu. In reverting to his cruel demon form, he found it almost easy to play with Karasu until he finally blew Kurama back to his human form. Weak and almost dead, he used the last of his energy to kill Karasu. However, three seconds too late- he still lost the match. As Yusuke aptly put it…”how the hell does a dead guy win the match?” Kurama remained alive, figuring out that each time he takes the potion, he completely retains a portion of his demon energy, and thus it kept him alive.
After Team Urameshi wins the dark tournament, Kurama returns home to normal life. However, the Rekkai Tentai are pulled into action once again as they find their spirit detective kidnapped. Kurama figured out Genkai was behind the ruse and was teaching them a lesson. A lesson about what they were really about to face. Kuwabara soon finds himself kidnapped and Kurama and the others go to the place that Shinobu Sensui (a had been spirit detective) is opening a whole to the demon world. There Kurama is forced to figure out that Sensui tricked a bunch of helpless people into helping him, one of which was Game Master. Amanuma did not understand that Sensui only placed him in the tunnel to delay the spirit team from reaching the end of the cave. Kurama, forced to make a choice, told the boy this to scare him and thus forcing him to loose in his own territory- resulting in the boy’s death. Kurama, guilty because Yoko would never have been so weak as well as angry for being forced to do such a thing, quickly went on to destroy elder Toguro who had taken over ‘gourmets’ body. Because elder Toguro was immortal, Kurama (extremely pissed and insulted) resulted to trapping him forever in the sinning tree. This was a flash to his past demonic cruelty which only his human morals portrayed as wrong. Later, Kurama and the others were trapped while Yusuke was forced to fight Sensui one on one. Everyone became worried and distraught when Yusuke died. With Kuwabara slicing open the barrier, they went into the depths of demon world to fight Sensui and avenge their friend. Yusuke later shows up as a fully fledged Mazaku and kills Sensui. Kurama- now able to freely transform between Yoko and his human form was able to once again return home.
It is not long until an old friend comes to con Kurama. Yomi, hell bent of forcing Kurama into his army in order to take over the dead king Raizens lands, places a leach demon inside Kuramas human step brother. Angry, Kurama joins and puts up with Yomis constant torture and antics. Kurama, having gained human morals, also feels guilty for what he did to Yomi so many years ago. This is also the arch in which Kurama becomes extremely self conflicted between his Yoko state and his human state, being forced to decide which one he would like to live with. Yusuke comes to Yomi’s territory to challenge them to a tournament instead of an all out war. The winner would take the prize. During the tournament, Kurama enters and trains a team for Yomi. It is the least he can do to atone for his sins against him. He later, fights against Shigure. During the battle, his inner conflict rises to the surface and he transforms into Yoko in order to summon the roots of the Ojiki which he planted 300 years ago. However, he reverts back to his human form; not wanting to resort to his old cruelty and demon senses in order to win this battle. Shigure commits suicide after finding he has lost. Kurama however withdrawals from the tournament after sustaining sever injuries.
After this he returns home to live a normal human life with his mother, and working for his step father. Kurama now finds resolve to live out his last days as a human. The end.

“Yes mother…I will take good care of him. No, not at all...please enjoy your trip and don’t fret too much. Yes, yes, I’ll be sure to keep tabs on his homework progress. ……You don’t say?...I think I can manage with dinner just fine. You too mother…good bye.” Kurama sighed and hung up the phone. A smile crossed his lips as he was genuinely happy to know that she was doing alright. That man was treating her nicely, and out of it Kurama now had a younger brother- whom he was to go check on for dinner in fifteen minutes.
Kurama turned to go check on things in the kitchen. Perhaps cooking was still not one of his best skills, since he always managed to mess something up. He couldn’t be perfect at everything now, could he? Just as he was about to saunter off, the phone rang again. He knew exactly who it was. Well, the two options it could be. It was either Yusuke calling to ask him about Keiko problems again, or Kuwabara complaining about college exams. Kurama stared at the phone, unsure of whether or not to pick it up. On the one hand, he could and then would be stuck in another conversation which would probably result in him burning dinner, on the other, he could leave it ringing.
Well, he knew it wasn’t dire. If it was…they would have just come to his house. Besides, what harm could it do to ignore one phone call? He eyed the caller I.D. to make sure and then with a smug smile returned to the kitchen. Just as he produced a spice from the cabinet, his brother’s voice called from upstairs.
“Shuichi…phone for you….It’s Kuwabara-san.”
Kurama’s brow twitched. Figures his brother would pick up the phone. He kindly called up to him, then quickly picked up the phone. With an exasperated sigh he shot a glance at dinner bubbling over. He reached to turn it off quickly and then spoke curtly to the phone.
“Yes?”

[Green hues peer forward in a quaint manner. They seem to be focusing on a small plant in front of him. He is lying against a tree, twirling the odd purple leafed fig between his fingers before stashing it next to him. ]
It would seem my powers are returning nicely…however, it is rather troublesome that even after all this time I’m finding it hard to contain the side effects.
[he turns over his hand, the nails elongated from using more demon energy than normal in order to summon that purple fig]
It will take more practice.
[With little effort the nails are back to normal and he seems to let out a sigh as he picks up the purple fig again and it whisks away into dust]This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function?
